According to this article [link] there is going to be a new Green Lantern of Earth. And according to the article, "Johns has no plans for Baz (the new Green Lantern) to fade into the background the character in February is bound for the Justice League of America, one of DC's premier super team books, to fight alongside Green Arrow, Catwoman and Hawkman."
Bad enough DC wants to introduce a NEW Green Lantern (which is highly UNNECESSARY), but he's going to be yet ANOTHER human male. Now, before I get to this I just have to ask. What happens to Hal Jordan? Will this new GL now be the title character of the Green Lantern comic? If so, what will happen to Hal Jordan? Speaking for myself personally, Hal Jordan has been, and always will be, my favorite Green Lantern. So, I very STRONGLY disagree with DC's move to introduce a NEW GL and move Hal aside. Especially considering the fact that John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner ALL are the main title character of their own books while us Hal fans are left out in the cold. With the advent of ANOTHER GL, there are good chances Hal is either going to fade into the background or be regulated to a supporting character in a comic that SHOULD rightfully belong to HIM and him alone not some new guy that should NEVER be introduced. I'm not interested in a new character, I'm interested in Hal Jordan and reading stories about him and not a new guy or anyone else.
But, not only is this new guy going to be introduced, he's going to be taking over Hal's spot in the JLA. A rookie GL is going to be a part of an elite team of Super-Heroes. Does that mean Hal is going to be taking a back seat or leave the team altogether? Honestly, I don't see the JLA needing TWO Green Lanterns. The new guy needs to gain EXPERIENCE before he joins an elite team of heroes in my opinion.
With that done and out of the way, this brings me to my second point. Why oh WHY do we need ANOTHER human MALE Green Lantern?! We have five already! Alan Scott was the first Green Lantern, Hal Jordan took over a decade or two later, then we have John Stewart, Guy Gardner and, more recently, Kyle Rayner. And now with this new guy, we have a sixth HUMAN MALE Green Lantern.
So, the truth is out now. DC has officially made ANY Green Lantern from Earth an ALL MENS Club where women are not allowed. Sure, we have Jade and a few relatively unknown women who "temporarily" wielded the ring, but all of that was only short lived and lasted one issue, more than one if we fans got lucky. Let's also not forget the fact that Jade is, technically, not even a Green Lantern.
Alien women make it just fine in the GLC, we have plenty of those, but not a single human woman has ever wielded the ring for any length of time and never had her own Green Lantern title. It's an all mens club folks because DC likes alien women but not human women to be a Green Lantern. Like I said before, it's an all mens club.
And frankly, DC should be ashamed of themselves for making it that way. Honestly, we do NOT need a new Green Lantern at all. But if DC insists on it, why not make the new GL a human WOMAN?! But no
they didn't. And because they didn't, their actions are speaking louder than words. When it comes to Green Lanterns from Earth, women can't make the cut because it's an ALL MEN'S CLUB!
That does not sit right with me. For ONCE I want to see a woman wield the ring. A HUMAN woman. If a new GL must be introduced, make the character a human WOMAN!!
I have lost all faith in DC, they cannot make good decisions of their life depended on it.
